In case you haven’t realized, there’s a star swimmer at Sachem and he’s breaking records on a weekly basis. Meet Nick Neri!
Neri, who will swim at Division I Florida Atlantic, took first place at the Suffolk County championships in the 50-free style with a mark of 21.54 and broke a decade-old record.
You can cheer him on this weekend as he competes in the NYSPHSAA championships and then at junior nationals in Orlando in March.
He also broke his own school record for a third time in the 100-free style with a 47.85 (took third place) and came back to lead off the 400-free relay and beat it again a fourth time with a 47.52.
On the 400-free relay, the group set a school record with a time of 3:20.87. The relay was lead off by Neri, Michael Dowd, Joe Monteverdi and Vincent Budke.
Neri now holds six school records, including:
- 200IM, 1:58.6 (previously 2:02.69 from 2012)
- 50 free, 21.54
- 100 free, 47.52
- 100 back, 53.41
- 100 breast, 1:00.5 (previous 1:01.93 from 2013
- 400 free relay
