The following text is from Marquette University:
The 2016 season was a big one for Marquette as Amplo led the Golden Eagles to a program-best 11-5 record, which included their first BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship tournament title as well as an NCAA playoff appearance as the nation’s No. 6 seed. The Farmingville, New York native is entering his fifth season at Marquette and is the only head coach in program history. Amplo serves on the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Committee and is an assistant coach with Team USA.
The Howdy Myers Man of the Year Award is presented in honor of one of the sport’s most outstanding coaches. Howdy Myers coached 17 championship teams at St. Paul’s, Johns Hopkins and Amplo’s alma mater, Hofstra. Myers was elected to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1971. The nominee for this award should have contributed to the game of lacrosse in a capacity over and above the normal efforts and in so doing, has shown unselfish and untiring devotion to the game.
