In the first track meet of the indoor season, Sachem North’s Chris Fasano set the school shot put record with a heave of 56’8.50” at Crossover “A” at Suffolk Community College’s Brentwood campus athletic facility.
The toss came on Fasano’s final throw of the night in the finals. The previous record was set in 2014 by current Sacred Heart thrower, Mike Kearns who had a launch of 55’5”.
Kearns’ throw broke a record that lasted over 30 years as Tom Farrell’s 52’9” sling set the Sachem standard for all shot putters in 1983.
Fasano’s meteoric rise as a thrower began his frosh season when he set the Sachem freshman record with a put of 42’9’ breaking a record previously held by Doug Cornell set during the 2006 season.
Fasano’s freshman season saw him finish seventh in League I followed by a third place finish as a sophomore and a second place finish last year.
Fasano’s record setting chuck this season is 13 feet further than the next best shot putter in Suffolk County through the early goings of the season.
