Sachem East students recently participated in a training day for “Teens as Teachers/Peer to Peer”.
The concept and rollout of the day was conceived by health educators, Lori Hewlett and Patricia Broderick.
As part of the full-day substance prevention education training, students were fortunate to have Kym Laube (HUGS), speak on the theme “Leadership”, Adam Intravia and Melissa Bennett (Sachem CSD Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Counselors) gave a Sachem perspective, and Hewlett (Health Education Department Chairperson) and Stephanie Sloan (Suffolk County Department of Health) trained the students on the “Too Good for Drugs” substance abuse prevention curriculum.
Thank you to the Sachem East school store for providing breakfast and Chick-fil-A who sponsored lunch for our peer leaders.
