What a way to kick off the year! Merrimac is taking a yoga initiative and the teachers had the opportunity to participate in a full yoga class at a recent faculty meeting.
The practice, led by Danielle Gagnon, third grade teacher and yoga enthusiast/instructor, was structured to energize the mind and body through a beginner vinyasa flow. It concluded with a mindful meditation as the faculty rested in savasana.
Yoga will improve strength, flexibility, balance and calmness in teachers. By practicing to consciously breathe, teachers can find a simple solution to facing many challenges throughout the day. A few deep breaths will help to improve the learning environment. Taking a moment to breathe encourages mindful action; it helps to resolve conflicts more productively.
Moving forward , each Merrimac faculty meeting will now conclude with a mindful meditation sending the teachers home relaxed and rejuvenated.
