Sachem alum Maria Michta-Coffey had an outstanding performance during her second Olympic games.
She finished No. 22 overall in the 20km racewalk on Friday in Rio. This is six spots better than her performance in London in 2012. Prior to the race she said she would be very happy with any finish in the top 25. Mission accomplished.
Michta-Coffey, who graduated from Sachem in 2004 and resides in Farmingville, finished with an unofficial time of 1:33.35. Her time in London was 1:32.27.
