A number of members from the Sachem community will be starring in “A Chorus Line” this spring with the Productions Over the Rainbow theater company. The popular musical is about an extraordinary Broadway audition in 1970’s New York.
This monumental production is the first of its kind for POTR, because it is choreographed with the help of Sachem North alum and Broadway veteran Jeffrey Schecter. After originating the role of Mike Costa in the revival of “A Chorus Line” nearly a decade ago, Schecter, also known in the biz as “Shecky”, has returned to the beloved musical, providing unique insight and Broadway-caliber choreography to the production.
Sachem families can now see Schecter in the award-winning production of “Fiddler on the Roof” on Broadway. You can check out Jeff and his new theater company “I CAN DO THAT NYC” at icandothatnyc.com.
POTR’s groundbreaking production of the musical phenomenon will be performed entirely by students, including Sachem North sophomore Kristopher Kilkenny as “Roy”, along with several POTR alumni, new students, and even some friendly faces from the Sachem community.
Sachem North ’15 alum, student advocate and current rising sophomore at Fordham University Kyle J. Kilkenny will be joining this exciting production in the role of “Gregory Gardner”, in his first production since beginning his Fordham career in August 2015.
Joining Schecter and De Persio on the production end is returning resident choreographer Alyse Arpino and resident musical director Carl Hottinger, who will conduct a live pit orchestra for all performances.
With a Broadway Veteran on staff and plenty of Sachem Arrows in the cast, “A Chorus Line” is going to be “ONE SINGULAR SENSATION!”, as well as a big reunion of Sachem students, past and present. The show dates are June 17-18 at 7:00 p.m., and it is being performed at Sachem’s own Sequoya Middle School in Holtsville. Featuring Broadway standards such as “Sing!”, “At the Ballet”, “What I Did for Love”, and “One”, this will surely be a unique theatrical experience Long Islanders won’t want to miss!
