Sachem North’s envirothon teams both did an outstanding job at a recent regional envirothon competition recently.
Team 2 (self named S.A.S. “Serious About Science”) earned top score in Suffolk County for their oral presentation. During the awards ceremony, they shared their eradication plan on stage to everyone at the competition. The picture shows them just before going on stage to present. Team 1 (self named H.A.M. “Hydrilla Attacking Machine”) scored highest overall in all categories for Suffolk County. This first place win earned them each a $500 scholarship, field guides, and a spot to compete representing Suffolk County at the NY State Envirothon in Geneva, NY on May 25th and 26th. “These self-motivated students have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort since early October to prepare for this competition,” said Sachem North science teacher and envirothon advisor Monica Marlowe. “I am extremely proud of them!”
