This just keeps getting better for the Sachem East girls basketball team. A team largely comprised of underclassmen has vaulted itself from the No. 8 seed into the Suffolk County Class AA championship.
The Arrows beat No. 4 Copiague, 54-44, in the semifinals on Sunday morning at Stony Brook University.
Sachem will now play the winner of the No. 3 Kings Park vs. No. 2 Commack game on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Suffolk Brentwood.
Kelly McKeveny led Sachem with four-straight three-point shots in the fourth quarter. Sachem outscored Copiague, 24-10, in the final eight minutes.
The program won Suffolk titles in 2010 and 2013. They also won Long Island championships those years. Sachem East last played in a county final in 2014.
