Sachem North junior Ryan D. Soeyadi was chosen to perform in the Tenth Annual NYSSMA Piano Showcase during last month’s All-State Conference in Rochester.
There were 113 applicants and only 12 were chosen for this prestigious honor. Soeyadi was featured alongside 11 of the best piano students from the state of New York in a showcase performance on December 4 at the Rochester Convention Center.
Soeyadi has been the high school’s accompanist since 9th grade. He accompanies the concert, treble and symphonic choirs for all winter and spring concerts. In addition, he also plays in the high school’s musicals as part of their pit orchestra and jazz band. He is a current and active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and is on the Honor Roll at the high school.
Soeyadi is a classical piano student at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Division under Dr. Adam Kent. Currently in his sixth year, Ryan has been awarded a scholarship each year to attend the school’s all day Saturday program where he takes the pre-college courses focusing on music theory, ear training, performance, master classes as well as playing in a chamber ensemble group.
In addition to attending and participating in music festivals as a scholarship recipient, he was also selected as one of Lang Lang’s 101 Pianists in 2014. Aside from having received numerous awards and scholarships at competitions and music festivals, his most recent accomplishment was receiving the first place award at the LISMA International Music Competition this past August 2015.
He will be performing solo works by Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Schubert, and Shostakovich at the Sachem Public Library on Friday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
