Sachem North’s peer education program has been telling “one story at a time” of the school’s students, faculty and staff.
Through the “Humans of Sachem North” project, under the guidance of social studies teacher Jonathan Chiaramonte, students in the class use social media to post photos and tell stories of individuals around the high school.
Developed from the original “Humans of New York” project, a blog and now book that has generated critical acclaim since its launch in 2010, Sachem’s storytelling is no different. There are thousands of students and teachers that occupy Sachem North and every individual has a story. Many of these stories, and individual portraits, now live on Facebook and Instagram.
