Sachem North alum Isaac Garcia-Cassani finished an All-America eighth place out of 278 runners to lead the Knights of SUNY Geneseo to third place out of 32 teams at the 43rd NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championships hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Club, this season.
The result was the team’s highest finish ever at the national championship race.
Geneseo totaled 209 points to capture third place as Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the title with 135 points, Williams came in second (144) and St. Olaf (211) and North Central (254) rounded out the top-five teams.
Garcia-Cassani, who graduated from Sachem North in 2014, ran the eight-kilometer course in a time of 24:34.2 to become the 14th All-America in program history.
Named USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Male Athlete of the Year, Garcia-Cassani won the men’s individual title at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, completing the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:11.1 to best a field of 288 runners by nine seconds. Prior to the regional championship, Garcia-Cassani ran to first place at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships with a time of 25:00.7.
