Sachem alum Joe Amplo gets to add a pretty cool title to his vast lacrosse resume: U.S. Men’s Assistant Lacrosse Coach.
Amplo, who grew up in Farmingville, N.Y. and graduated from Sachem in 1995, will represent the stars and stripes and Team USA at the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse Men’s World Championship in Manchester, England.
Currently the head men’s lacrosse coach at Marquette University, Amplo will get the unique opportunity to coach alongside John Danowski, his former coach as a player and assistant at Hofstra University.
“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to represent the United States as an assistant coach with the U.S. National Team,” Amplo said in a statement on the Marquette Athletics website. “This is a dream come true for any coach and has special meaning to me. To be reunited with two of my greatest mentors and friends on the sidelines is an experience that I will look forward to and cherish.”
Amplo will also be joined by Seth Tierney, the current head men’s lacrosse coach at Hofstra. They were both assistants for Danowski.
Guiding Marquette since the program’s inception in 2011, Amplo brought the Golden Eagles to a top 10 ranking last season for the first time. A year earlier he was Big East Coach of the Year.
