The Sachem East Girls Cross Country team won the Suffolk County Championship on Friday, successfully defending its 2014 title.
Sachem East scored 43 points to secure a convincing win with Bayshore (67 pts), Sachem North (130), Ward Melville (154), and Northport (177) taking the next four places.
Alex DeCicco defended her individual title, as well, taking the win in the best time of the day- 19:08.
Val Romero placed 6th (20:08), Rachel Ruggiero 8th (20:13), Lindsey Dodenhoff 16th (21:00), Jill Manfredi 18th (21:09), Tiffany Ly 22nd (21:15), and Caitlin O’Hehir 24th (21:16), putting all seven Sachem harriers in the top 20 percent of the championship field.
The Arrows now advance to the New York State Championship Meet that will be held at upstate’s Monroe-Woodbury High School next Saturday.
The girls will go head-to-head with several Nationally-ranked NYS teams (including current US No. 1 and US No. 3) in a loaded Class A race set to go off at 10:40 a.m.
