An 18-41 victory over a strong Commack squad was a fitting way to celebrate both Senior day and a League Championship, as the East Arrows finished the 2015 dual meet season undefeated to claim the League II crown. Special congratulations to all 19 Seniors on their many contributions to the outstanding season: Ashley Accardi, Arianna Cavallino, Kerstyn Ciulla, Sam DiBenedetto, Alex DeCicco, Alex Giambanco, Caitlyn Hayes, Chandana Kochath, Stephanie Kwong, Sam LoCascio, Jill Manfredi, Ciara Murphy, Karli Murphy, Val Romero, Sophia Saladino, Rachel Semetsis, Emily Tobin, Kaitlin Veigl, Siobhan Walsh, and Kaylie Wessberg.
The win over Commack follows a breakout team performance at the Burnt Hills Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park this past Saturday. East bested 53 other squads in a day of season and lifetime best performances.
Alex DeCicco placed second, Val Romero fifth, and Rachel Ruggiero 12th to lead Sachem over the NYS class “B” No. 1 ranked Burnt Hills squad, the Vermont No. 1 team from Champlain Valley, and a number of other NYS ranked squads.
Caitlin O’Hehir and Tiffany Ly contributed to the team scoring, with Jill Manfredi just steps behind. Karli Murphy, Lauren Harris, Lindsey Dodenhoff, Ciara Murphy, Kaylie Wessberg, Kaitlin Veigl, Shayna Arrigo, and Chelsea Benedict all recorded sub 21 minute 5k performances on the beautiful Saratoga course.
The Arrows now head into the Championship portion of the season, with the emphasis placed on the County Championship meet held on November 6, which also serves as the State Qualifier.
Sachem East will be challenged by 4 NYS ranked teams (Bayshore NYS No. 10, Ward Melville NYS No. 19, Sachem North NYS No. 23, and Northport NYS No. 24) for the one and only Suffolk team bid to the State Championship Meet. The State meet will be held at Monroe-Woodbury H.S. on November 14.
