Dozens of former Sachem football players performed this past weekend during the first major weekend of college football this season.
Crossan strong in UNH loss: Just like that Dalton Crossan began his 2015 campaign as expected, with big plays, big yards and a spark of offense that’s been written about in every pre-season article about New Hampshire football. He recorded 163 all-purpose yards in a 43-13 loss at San Jose State. His 26-yard touchdown run was the most dazzling play New Hampshire mustered in the loss. He also had 47 total rushing yards, 14 receiving yards and 102 yards on kick returns.
Pierre sparks Post: In his first major performance as a college football player, Pierre, who graduated two years ago from Sachem North, recorded 117 yards on 11 carries in LIU Post’s 41-40 victory over East Stroudsburg. Pierre, who averaged 10.6 yards per carry, also scored a 10-yard touchdown in the contest and had one long run of 47 yards. He also had eight kick returns for 213 yards and his longest for 66 yards. That’s 330 all purpose yards for Pierre.
Ward named ECFC ROW: Sachem North alum Matt Ward made an immediate impact in his first career collegiate game at SUNY Maritime. He had three catches for 57 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown catch. For his efforts, he was named Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Rookie of the Week.
Mills, RPI open with shutout: Steve Mills has been a consistent stay as a starting center on RPI’s offensive line. He has started all 22 games of his college career. While centers don’t generate statistics, they do have a large say in the success of the offense and RPI could not have done better in Week 1 than its 37-0 victory over Norwich.
Steven Casali: If you’re wondering, Steven Casali and the Massachusetts Minutemen will kick off their season on September 12. We’ll have updates about the Sachem East alumnus throughout the season.
Jumbo on his Michigan roots: Just in case you didn’t see the article on Sachem Report about John Elliott and some press he’s received as of late regarding his Michigan roots, click here to read.
