Sachem East alum and Michigan sophomore Katie Trombetta has been named to the Big Ten Conference Players to Watch list.
Trombetta, a midfielder/back, emerged as a dependable presence in the Wolverine backfield in her rookie campaign last year and carried that momentum into a strong spring exhibition season. Trombetta is versatile and has the ability to play at several position between the midfield and backfield.
Trombetta, who graduated from Sachem East in 2014, appeared in 17 games as a freshman. She fired shots against New Hampshire and No. 7 Stanford and recorded a defensive save in the second half against VCU.
Michigan will open the 2015 season, its 43rd of intercollegiate play, on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 29-30) at the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Phyllis Ocker Field. U-M will face North Carolina at 2 p.m. on Saturday before returning the following day for 2 p.m. contest with Wake Forest.
