Four student-athletes from Sachem North will attend the USA Volleyball High Performance Camp this week.
According to Team USA, the High Performance Program at USA Volleyball is the “Pipeline” for volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport and is intended to grow the pool of talented young players who may someday compete for a spot on the USA National and Olympic Teams.
Each athlete tried out for the camp during their respective club seasons in cities around the country.
The names include Dylan Missry, Matt Grace, Rob Nolan and A.J. Fitzgerald.
Missry, an opposite hitter who graduated from Sachem last year and is headed to UCLA, made the roster of the top 20 kids in the country trying out for the USA Youth National Team (next team above this is the Olympic Team). He will be training until August 10 in Iowa. On August 4 he will find out if he makes the final roster of 12 players. If he makes it, he’ll head to Argentina and represent the United States in the World Games.
Grace, a junior setter, and Nolan, a junior libero, made the USA Continental Team. This puts them in the top 75 players in the country and they will train in Iowa for two weeks as well.
Fitzgerald, a rising eighth grader, made the A2 Youth Future Select Team and will train in Colorado for 10 days this summer.
