During Sachem High School North’s graduation on Saturday, the grandmother of one graduating senior was presented with an honorary diploma from the high school.
Anita R. Krausch, 91, the grandmother of student Kyle Kilkenny, did not have the chance to graduate from Pelham High School in the 1940s. She had to leave school and go into the work force, erasing the opportunity to complete her education at the secondary level.
She married and was one of many women with husbands fighting for our country in World War II. Family has always come first for Mrs. Krausch and she ultimately raised four bright and independent children.
Eventually settling in Commack, she worked closely with the youth of the community by forming and running what was then called the Commack Youth Council. She started her own business back in the 1970’s doing party planning and staff placement before it became fashionable. She’s an avid writer and has submitted various works for publication over the years.
She was honored with a diploma presented to her by Sachem Superintendent James Nolan, Sachem North Principal John Dolan and Sachem Board of Education President Sal Tripi. She also received a certificate from the office of New York State Assemblyman Al Graf.
