Sachem students and teachers performed alongside members of the Long Island Philharmonic conducted by David Stewart Wiley on Thursday at a free public concert hosted by Sachem North High School.
Over the course of two weeks, select students worked with professional coaches from the Long Island Philharmonic in preparation for the evening performance.
This opportunity was provided through the Philharmonic’s “Performance Partners” series. This program consists of Philharmonic musicians instructing, coaching, and mentoring students, plus a conductor’s rehearsal and a dress rehearsal, culminating in public side-by-side concerts, conducted by Long Island Philharmonic Music Director, David Stewart Wiley.
These programs currently take place in Sachem CSD and two Nassau County high schools, Uniondale and The Wheatley School. The unique mentoring experience is a total commitment for everyone involved – students, teachers, and the Philharmonic professionals. Thursday’s program consisted of works by Moussorgsky, Gershwin, Sibelius, and Beethoven.
