Sachem North junior Jacob Giacalone has been named to the 108-player tryout pool for the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Under-19 Team. Tryouts will be held later this month at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md.
Giacalone is vying to make the first cut, which will include 50 players who have a second tryout in August at Johns Hopkins, where he will attend and play lacrosse. There will be 23 players who make the final roster for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships, which will be held in July 2016 in British Columbia.
“We are excited by the overwhelming response we received from the very best young men this country has to offer on the lacrosse field,” said Ohio State head coach Nick Myers, the head coach of the U.S. U19 team. “I want to thank the selection committee for all their hard work and effort to narrow this competitive field of applicants. The staff is looking forward to the June tryout and taking the next big step toward building a championship team.”
Giacalone is one of eight goalies invited to the tryout.
Sachem is no stranger with alums playing for Team USA. Doug Shanahan, who has his No. 26 lacrosse jersey retired at Sachem, played on the men’s U.S. squad in multiple World Championships during his career.
