Workplace wellness was the theme throughout the buildings in the Sachem Central School District the week of April 27.
After a long and cold winter, the staff at Merrimac Elementary School was enthusiastic to get back on track with some physical activity, mental renewal, and healthy dieting.
In recognition of National Employee Wellness Week, the staff at Merrimac synergized and offered a busy week of healthy activities.
The week started with a healthy parfait and veggie slices option in the cafeteria made by Andrea Wirth, our building cook. They kept things moving with a complimentary Zumba class by Vicki Moreno. They focused on tranquility of mind and body on Tuesday with a Yoga class presented by Danielle Gagnon.
The nurse’s office was the place to be on Wednesday where a blood pressure screening was offered along with BMI calculations. With the start of nicer weather, after school walking clubs started forming. To emphasize the importance of hydration, the cafeteria offered a ½ price sale on water on Thursday.
They did not forget to sharpen the saw by meeting together as a staff on Friday morning for breakfast. On Friday, we also had a specially made healthy lunch option of veggie pizza.
By the weeks end, it was not difficult to see that the events were well attended and enjoyed by all. There was an excitement about continuing these healthy habits, a definite win-win.
