The Sachem Track and Field programs and Irish Times Restaurant in Holbrook are proud to again host the Tom Toscano Foundation’s major fundraiser on Sunday, May 17th, from 3-6 p.m.
The barbecue and music, presented in the expansive outdoor courtyard area of Irish Times, is free of charge, but donations will certainly be accepted. In addition to raising funds for team trip and camp expenses, every year the Foundation targets community members or groups in need of support. In recent years Maria Michta (Olympic training expenses) and a number of athletes fighting cancer were all given grants, and this years recipient will be the Rolling Thunder Special Needs Program.
Rolling Thunder is a Long Island based running team formed to provide competitive opportunities for developmentally or physically challenged athletes. Perhaps the most visible member of the program, Mike Brannigan, has been able to excel at the High School level at Northport HS, even winning the 2 Mile at the 2014 New Balance Oudoor Nationals (8:53.59) despite the challenges presented by Autism. The Rolling Thunder team continues to advance the cause of dignity and respect for ALL through it’s diverse and intense program.
Live music will be provided by a number of local artists including Pat Gubbins, Visco and McNeill, Tommy Keys, and Buoy 34. Check out the Facebook pages of the musicians to find out more, and be sure to pencil in May 17th on your calendar! To find out more about the Rolling Thunder program go to www.rtsnp.org.
