Sachem alum Roy Stillufsen has been inducted to the New York wing of the United States Specialty Sports Association Hall of Fame.
He was honored with the Frank & Al Ciaccia Lifetime Achievement Award by the USSSA at a ceremony held at the Marriott in Islandia.
The honor stems from his devotion to softball on Long Island, which has spanned more than 50 years of playing, and coaching.
Stillufsen, who graduated from Sachem in 1965, was presented with a Hall of Fame ring and certificate during the ceremony.
“The guidance and leadership you have displayed throughout the years has become a benchmark for all to follow,” reads the certificate he received. “Your commitment to the players, coaches, fans and directors of New York State has set new standards … let it be known that all you have done and continue to do for New york State-USSSA has not gone unnoticed.”
Born in Brooklyn in 1947, Stillufsen and his family moved to Holtsville in 1954 and he’s been an area resident ever since.
He spent the majority of his professional life working for the Suffolk County Water Authority. An Ex-Chief with the Holtsville Fire Department, he has held the rank of Fire Commissioner for more than 20 years.
