Another year, and more wrestlers from Sachem East were on top of the podium at the Suffolk County championships.
Jakob Restrepo captured his second straight Suffolk crown, this time at 152 pounds, while teammate Sean Dee won his first county title at 285 pounds. The matches took place at Hofstra University on Sunday night.
Restrepo, who was a runner-up last year in the 145-pound New York State final, cruised to a 10-0 victory over John Glenn’s Matt Porello.
He is one of four Suffolk wrestlers to repeat as a county champion this season.
Dee fought tough and beat John Glenn’s Edwin Rubio, 3-2, in triple overtime.
Both grapplers will move on to the New York State tournament held in Albany’s Times Union Center on February 27-28.
Sachem North’s Anthony DiMatteo lost in the 220-pound final to Walt Whitman’s Vin Feola, 3-2.
Sachem East’s Connor Farrell, as well as Sachem North’s David McCarthy both lost in the tournament semifinals.
Hauppauge won the overall team championship with 167.5 points.
