The first race of the day proved to be the strongest for the North Boys Winter track team as they took three of the six possible places and scored 20 total points. Led by 3,200-meter champion, John Onken the Arrows placed three in the top five as Sophomore Jonathan Lauer rallied to a second place finish and Senior Mark Difulvio ran a personal best time to finish fifth.
The distance events proved to be the place where the boys would score the bulk of their points as Senior Tyler McNamara placed third overall in the 1,600 and Onken again showed up in the points column taking sixth
In the 1,000 meters, Senior Dan Stretz took fifth and in the 600, Sophomore Chris Tibbetts placed third.
The Arrows also placed their 4×800 meter relay team of Dan Stretz, Chris Tibbetts, Mike Cavanaugh, and Tyler McNamara run to a fourth place finish in the event.
The distance events were not the only place the Arrows scored their points as the 4×2 team of Chris Palmer, Andrew Servedio, Conor Hartman, and Hani Bacha placed fifth overall.
The high jump and shot put both saw Arrows take third place finishes as Will Kampourglou and Chris Fasano took the High Jump and Shot Put respectively.
“These boys worked hard all season and maintained a high level of competitiveness following an awesome Cross Country season,” said Sachem North coach Joe Zarzycki. “We did not finish as high in the league as we did last year, but our times did improve, which speaks to the depth of the league this year. My assistant coaches, Bill Holl and Bryan Rogers deserve a lot of credit, as I am lucky to have the Cross Country and Spring Track coaches on my winter staff. They bring a ton of coaching experience to this staff and our boys are certainly the beneficiary.”
“We are excited to see how the boys do in the Counties and State Qualifier meets,” Zarzycki continued, “and I think they all will be primed for an outstanding outdoor season.”
