Sachem alum Doug Shanahan has been named the new lacrosse program director at St. Brendan High School in Miami.
Shanahan is launching the school’s first lacrosse team, which is set to begin play in late February.
“My goal for this season is to build a foundation of success for the coming years and to win games by building on team work and chemistry,” he said in a statement on the school’s athletic website. “I am also very excited to have been given the opportunity to build the program from the ground up.”
He will also serve as a physical education teacher and strength and conditioning coach at the high school.
Shanahan, who graduated from Sachem in 1997, is one of the most recognized lacrosse players in the world. A member of the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame, Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame, and Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame, he has his No. 26 retired at both Sachem and Hofstra.
