Every April, well after all the matches have been wrestled and league, county and state champions have been crowned, the wrestling community gathers for the annual Suffolk County wrestling awards dinner.
The event is held to honor the accomplishments of Section XI wrestlers throughout the season. Numerous awards are presented to those who excel in the county and state tournaments.
One tradition at this event is the release of the updated Section XI Century Club. The Century Club lists every wrestler in Suffolk County history who has earned 100 or more career victories. This year Doug Iadanza will join that list.
Iadanza, a senior captain, recorded his milestone 100th victory at the Andrew Peers tournament in December. He is a returning All-County, and three-time All-League wrestler.
Iadanza is wrestling at 120 this year and is looking to improve upon his fourth place finish in last year’s county tournament. He currently sits at No. 4 on Sachem East’s All-Time win list with 114.
Fellow senior captain and Maryland-bound Jakob Restrepo is climbing up the list at a rapid pace. The returning State Finalist is off to a 23-0 start to the 2014-15 season, and has climbed into a tie with 2011 grad Sean O’Malley at No. 2 on the list with 140 victories.
