Sachem North senior goalie Eric Szurley recently committed to Division II Belmont Abbey to play lacrosse.
“He works extremely hard and is a tremendous leader,” said Sachem North lacrosse coach Jay Mauro. “Eric will have a great year for us and in the future.”
He plans on majoring in criminal justice.
Sachem Report caught up with Szurley recently.
Why did you choose Belmony Abbey?
I picked Belmont Abby because it was a really good fit for me academically and athletically. Also I liked how the campus was small and it was close to Charlotte.
Where else were you considering?
The other colleges I was considering were Walsh, Assumption and SUNY Maritime.
What goals do you have for the rest of your high school career?
My Goals for the rest of my high school career would be doing everything for my team to get us better and prepared for the season so we can compete to get to the Suffolk County Championships because I know as a team we have great potential to go far and do big things this year. Another goal would be to become a leader to this team and this program and lead us to success.
What does it mean for you to be a student-athlete in Sachem?
It’s great being a Sachem student-athlete because In Sachem most of the team grew up together over the years as friends so I feel we all have a strong relationship with one another and are more brothers then teammates on and off the field. It’s great being a part of this. The Sachem community is very close and has come together and done a lot for my family and I couldn’t be more grateful to know I have such great people around me in my community.
