Sachem North senior longstick midfielder Bobby Amato has committed to play college lacrosse at Division I Stony Brook University.
Amato plans to pursue a career in the medical field and will be majoring in biology, while fulfilling his pre-med requirements. He has hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon or general physician.
“Bobby is a great kid with an excellent work ethic,” said Sachem North lacrosse coach Jay Mauro. “He’s a leader on the field and off. He’s also a standout in the classroom. He’s a true definition of student-athlete.”
Sachem Report caught up with Amato to talk about his decision to play at SBU:
Why did you choose Stony Brook?
I chose Stony Brook because of their outstanding reputation on and off the field. Stony Brook offers a great academic foundation before entering the work place, and when this is paired with a great lacrosse team, you can’t beat that combination.
Where else were you considering?
I was considering to play at Dartmouth and Brown university.
What does it mean for you to be a student-athlete at Sachem?
Being a student-athlete at Sachem can be very difficult. I am currently in four AP classes and I took 10 AP classes over my high school career. I believe balancing a rigorous academic schedule with a demanding level of lacrosse will only create benefits. I believe lacrosse has molded me to become more efficient student and overall a better athlete.
What are your goals for the rest of your Sachem career?
My goals for the rest of my Sachem career are to maintain a high GPA and to win a state championship.
