Sachem East senior Nick Tedesco will play Division I baseball to Hofstra University where he plans to study business.
Tedesco, a first and third baseman, is President of the Sachem East Business Honor Society and was one of Sachem East’s business students selected to intern at Citi Bank this summer.
Tedesco chose to play at Hofstra because of its commitment to athletics and its dynamic school of Business. He was also considering Adelphi, Concordia College, Quinnipiac and the University of Hartford.
“I’ve worked extremely hard this summer to achieve my goal of playing Division I baseball,” h said. “I’m looking forward to learning from Hofstra’s great coaching staff and playing baseball close to home. This will allow me to continue my many community service activities on Long Island.
Tedesco is also very involved with The Miracle League of Long Island, a non-profit that provides baseball for disabled children. The League is hoping to expand to Nassau County in 2016 and Tedesco hopes by playing baseball at Hofstra it would allow him to introduce the Miracle League to the University.
Tedesco recently won the New Balance Game Changer award, which provided $2,500 worth of apparel to the Miracle League.
Heading into his senior year, Tedesco hopes to help the Sachem East get back into the playoffs.
“Two seasons ago, the Sachem East Baseball team won the League II title,” he said. “Last year we just missed the playoffs in League I. This year we have a great group of seniors returning and our JV team was very successful. So our goal is to work hard and hopefully win another baseball league title. ”
Tedesco will join Sachem North alum Steven Foster, who graduated last year, on the Hofstra baseball team.
