Sachem North senior defender Mike Leckie will take his talents to Division III Gwynedd Mercy, a Catholic school in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
“Mike is a great kid who has made tremendous strides as a lacrosse player,” said Sachem North lacrosse coach Jay Mauro. “He’s a hard worker and a great teammate. We are very happy for Mike.”
Sachem Report caught up recently with Leckie to talk about his college choice.
Why did you choose Gwynedd Mercy?
I chose Gwynedd Mercy because of their great business program. The small class sizes really appealed to me, I feel like I will be able to take advantage of the classes I take and have good relationships with my professors.
Where else were you considering?
I was also considering and visited Western Connecticut State University and Moravian College.
What do you plan on majoring in and what are your career aspirations?
I plan on majoring in sports management and during my time at Gwynedd I hope to take part in some sort of internship locally in the Philadelphia area. Hopefully after taking part in a specific internship, that will turn into a long term job opportunity for me.
What are your goals this season at Sachem North?
This season at Sachem North we all share a common goal, winning a county championship. The team put in a lot of work over the summer, fall and will continue to this winter. All the returning players have tons of motivation from last years playoff loss and we are working hard not to be in that situation again.
What does it mean for you to be a student-athlete in Sachem?
Being a student-athlete is something I take with pride. Working hard in the classroom always comes first then working hard on the field. Being able to say you are apart of the Sachem North Lacrosse family is such a great feeling.
