Merrimac Elementary School students synergized and raised money recently for breast cancer awareness.
Isabella Manuel, Danielle Chiarello, Mattea Greco, Gianna Montes, Amanda Newman, and Victoria Wilson came up with the idea of making rainbow loom bracelets to fight breast cancer. Anyone who donated $1 or more received a bracelet, which they made and delivered to their classmates.
They wrote announcements and made posters and also shared this service learning project with the guests on Leadership Day last week. In total, they raised $412 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
“It was amazing how they took their idea, created a WIG (wildly important goal) , and carried it out,” said Merrimac Principal Veronica DeCicco. “It demonstrates the principles of the 7 habits in action.”
As Margaret Mead states, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
“These girls brought this to quote to life,” added DeCicco.
