Make that four consecutive Long Island championships for Sachem East field hockey.
The girls were in full dynasty mode Sunday, defending their title yet again against Nassau County’s Massapequa. This year Sachem East won, 4-0, at Cold Spring Harbor High School.
The Arrows are now 19-0 this season and are on a run of 82-2 over the past four championship seasons.
Next up for Sachem East is a trip to Maine-Endwell High School next Friday and Saturday for the New York State championships.
Most pundits thought Sachem East would be down this season with the graduation of All-American talent Kate Trombetta. They were wrong, but even coach Tina Moon has been pleasantly surprised of the continued dominance by her team.
“I can’t believe we’re sitting where we are right now,” said Moon. “They’re a young group, but they never stop and they work so hard. I’m elated for them.”
Senior Katie Shanahan led Sachem with two goals in the victory, while Cara Trombetta and Taylor Giordano also scored.
Sachem East goalie Destiny Holder recorded another shutout. The Arrows have 16 shutouts this season and have not allowed a goal since Oct 2, a victory against Cold Spring Harbor.
On the goal differential front, Sachem East has outscored its opponents 17-0 this post season and 75-4 overall this season in 19 games.
Asked what the word dynasty means to her, Moon simply said it means nothing. She doesn’t think like that. Instead, it’s one year at a time.
“It’s one of my favorite years ever in the sense of where we were, where we’ve been and where we are now,” she said. “It’s a cool feeling. With a littleĀ luck, and talent this is what we’re doing.”
