Make that 6-0 for Sachem East. The Arrows wage on with their best season in school history after a 28-26 victory at Brentwood on Saturday afternoon.
Brentwood rallied from a 28-14 deficit and managed to gain possession with less than four minutes left, charge the field and score on a 4-yard quarterback dive by LaValle Hall at the goal line to get within two points, but the Indians were stuffed on a two-point pass play with 24 seconds remaining.
Senior Josh Hanna was the stalwart for Sachem East on the ground with 199 yards on 15 carries. He also scored one touchdown.
Ryan Leone continued his strong play with 17 carries for 64 yards and one touchdown.
Connor Farrell had a game-high 16 tackles and also caught a two-point conversion pass in the victory.
Billy Carroll recorded 13 tackles and three sacks.
Sachem East, the only undefeated team in Suffolk’s Division I, has never started a season 6-0. Sachem East has never won more than six games in a season in program history, so this win ties the previous program single-season mark.
The Arrows are in action again on Friday night at home against Lindenhurst at 7 p.m.
