Sachem East made history on Saturday night. With a 28-10 victory over Walt Whitman, the Arrows have now started a season 5-0 for the first time in school history.
Ryan Leone led the Arrows with two rushing touchdowns, while Josh Hannah and Javon Abraham also scored rushing touchdowns in the victory.
The Arrows (5-0) took a 14-10 lead into halftime before adding two more second-half scores to widen the gap.
Sachem East and Whitman were tied at 7 in the first quarter. Whitman kicked a field goal to make it 10-7, and East went ahead, 14-10, after a 20-yard touchdown from Leone at 1:13 of the second quarter.
Hannah scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, while Abraham had a 20-yard burst for a touchdown.
Sachem East will play its next game at Brentwood (1-4) on Saturday, October 18.
East players wore “54” and “TC” stickers on their helmets to honor Tom Cutinella, who died recently playing in a high school football game for Shoreham-Wading River.
The Sachem East Touchdown Club was selling 50/50 raffle tickets to raise money for the Tom Cutinella Scholarship Fund.
The Arrows are 3-1 all-time against Walt Whitman.
