Sachem East alum Samantha Alvino, a junior at Elms College, was recently honored with the Monsignor Conlin Award, given to the student with the highest GPA in their class at the college.
As a sophomore, Alvino registered the highest academic achievement of her sophmore class, recording a perfect 4.0, according to a release from the school.
Alvino was a member of Sachem East’s 2011 and 2012 New York State Championship teams.

An Early Childhood Education major, Alvino has started all 11 games at goalkeeper for the Blazers (2-7) this season, ranking first in the New England Collegiate Conference in saves (158); second in save percentage (.818) and goals against average (3.02).
The Elms field hockey squad returns to the field in a non-conference tilt against Wheaton (Mass.) at Leary Field Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Blazers open their NECC conference schedule with a road trip to Becker College Saturday afternoon at 11:00 a.m.
