Sachem North senior Mike Sofia has committed to play college lacrosse at New York Institute of Technology.
Sofia, a midfielder and three-year varsity player, was also considering Assumption College and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
He will be majoring in criminal justice and psychology and his goal is to work in law enforcement on the federal level.
“NYIT was one of the schools that I have been interested in since I began thinking about college,” he said. “NYIT will give me the chance to receive a great education, play on a highly competitive team and live on campus, all while staying here on Long Island.”
Like his teammates, Sofia’s goal is to help Sachem win a lacrosse state title during his senior campaign. He believes they have the close-knit team that “has the potential to do great things.”
“We put a lot of hard work in year round on and off the field, and I believe that our goal is definitely attainable,” he said.
Sofia will be a key reason for Sachem’s success this spring.
“Each year he works his tail off and has really developed into a top notch lacrosse player and leader,” said Sachem lacrosse coach Jay Mauro. “We expect big contributions from Mike his senior year.”
