The Sachem North boys cross country team traveled to Sunken Meadow State Park to compete in the annual Suffolk County Coaches Invitational.
With a recent No. 10 and No. 9 ranking in New York State Class A (depending on which rankings you look at) the team wanted to see how they stacked up against the competition from Suffolk and Nassau Counties.
In the Varsity A race senior John Onken led to the team to a first place finish with his individual win in a time of 17:08. John was followed closely by Jonathan Lauer (3rd place), Dan Block (6th place), Dan Stretz (11th place), Mark DiFulvio (12th place), Tyler McNamara (13th place) and Mike Cavanaugh (30th place). The boys scored 33 points, 43 points better than 2nd place Port Washington of Nassau County.
In the JV race Vinny Inzone won his second straight invitational and led the team to an overall 1st place with a time of 18:43. Helping secure the win by 18 points over Smithtown was Chris Tibbetts (3rd place), Joe Varca (6th place), Jack McGlinchey (9th place), Tim Urbom (30th place), Chris Ladd (40th place) and Robert Conte (48th place).
On Tuesday Sept. 30the boys continue their league meet season and look to improve upon their 2-0 record when they host Middle Country at 4:00 p.m.
