The Sachem North boys cross country team defeated the two-time defending county champion Northport Tigers by a score of 19-39 last week.
In the three-mile race held at Sunken Meadow State Park, senior John Onken led the Flaming Arrows with a first place finish and a time of 15:58.
Northport’s top runner placed second followed by sophomore Jonathan Lauer in third (16:32), senior Daniel Block in fourth (16:34), senior Tyler McNamara in fifth place (16:39) and senior Daniel Stretz in sixth (16:42). Rounding out the seven varsity runners was senior Mark DiFulvio in eighth place with a time of 16:58.
This past Saturday the boys traveled upstate to run against some of the best teams in New York State at the Warwick Valley Wave Mania Invitational.
The boys posted excellent times and finished third overall in a race that saw the Arrows defeat the fifth ranked team in New York State. On Monday new state rankings based on the first weekend of “big” action in New York State Cross Country had the Arrows ranked No. 10 in New York State Class A.
