Former Sachem North offensive coordinator Mike Maratto is off to a good start as the new head football coach at Half Hollow Hills East.
Hills picked up a 35-14 victory against Centereach in Maratto’s debut.
It was also his first game as a head coach having served as an assistant at Sachem, St. Anthony’s and John Glenn.
The victory marked the first win for Hills East since Oct. 13, 2012. Hills was 0-8 last season and never scored more than 20 points in each loss.
Hills East, which competes in Suffolk’s Division II, will take on Copiague during Week 2. Hills has only won a combined six games during the last three seasons.
During Maratto’s tenure at Sachem, the Flaming Arrows had their most prolific offensive seasons in program history. His guidance and play calling last season helped lead Sachem to its first Class I Long Island championship.
