Sachem North rising sophomore Brody McCoy has verbally committed to play lacrosse at Air Force Academy, according to Sachem coach Jay Mauro.
McCoy will join a handful of Sachem alums who are playing at or will soon be attending service academies.
“The United States Air Force Academy has always been a dream of mine,” said McCoy, a longstick-midfielder. “The Academy can offer a top-notch education along with a Division I athletic experience.”
McCoy’s brother Keith graduated this year from Sachem North and is attending the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.
“He was always pushing me in everything we did,” he said. “Being the younger brother, I always felt the need to work harder and be better than he was.”
Like many student-athletes in the Sachem North lacrosse program, McCoy has benefited from the summer program. Between the grueling practices and a strong coaching approach, plus a support system at home with his parents and brother, McCoy has been pushed in the right direction by everyone around him.
“I would like to thank both my parents for always dropping what they were doing to give me rides to practices and driving out to the summer tournaments,” he said. “I would also like to thank my brother for his continuous support throughout everything. And, finally, I would also like to thank the coaches as well as my teammates from Sachem North for always being around to help develop and get to where I am now.”
McCoy still has a long and hopefully fruitful academic and athletic career ahead of him at Sachem. He has three years to make his mark in Black & Gold before heading to Colorado Springs.
“Brody is a good athlete with a good motor,” said Mauro. “Another multi-sport athlete we love to coach. We believe he will keep getting better the more and more he plays.”
