Sachem East rising senior Jacob Restrepo has verbally committed to wrestle at Cornell University. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the Suffolk County Champion since he lived the first seven years of his life in Ithaca.
Restrepo, who finished 45-1 last season as a junior, is aiming at an individual state title to cap off an already impressive prep career at Sachem East.
He spent his second off-season working out at Vougar’s Honors Wrestling Club, where it was officially announced that he would be wrestling for Cornell after committing to coach Rob Koll in a phone call.
“We were talking about recruiting [Tuesday],” he told NewYorkWrestlingNews.com. “And during practice, I got on the phone with Coach [Rob] Koll and committed. It was pretty cool. Nick [Arujau] handed me a Cornell t-shirt that I put on and Vougar stopped practice and told everyone.”
“I grew up in Ithaca,” Restrepo added. “It was so nice up there – beautiful – and I really like the small town feel to it. I also love the coaches. I committed this early because it just felt right.”
