Sachem East’s Cassie Belz committed to play Division II volleyball at Concordia.
Citing proximity to Long Island, Belz picked the small school to further her abilities in volleyball, but also study early childhood education.
She hopes to pursue a career in special education after college.
Belz has been playing volleyball since sixth grade. She played for Sachem during middle school and freshman year before playing club volleyball as a junior and senior.
“Ever since middle school I’ve tried every sport, but I stuck with volleyball and I’m glad because now it’s paying off,” she said. “I’ve been given an awesome opportunity and I definitely could not do it without my parents.”
Concordia competes in the Central Atlantic College Conference. The Clippers are set to begin their 2014 season on Friday, Sept. 5 in a non-conference matchup at Queens.
