Sachem North’s Shannon Fox finished tied for 10th at this year’s Suffolk County Girls Gold Championships and won an alternate spot in a playoff.
One of the top nine golfers could not head to the state match, so Fox received the chance to go. The Suffolk golfers competed for two days in mid-June at the college course of SUNY Delhi.
Each day the top seven of nine scores count toward the team total that day.
On day one, Foxy, as she’s known by teammates and coaches, shot an 88 and contributed as a scorer. On day two she shot an 89, but that score was one of the two that were dropped.
Overall, Suffolk was the runner up with 1,139 strokes to state champ Section III with 1,134 strokes.
