Sachem North’s Mike Licata and Sachem East’s Joe Licata – no relation – both played in the first annual Dan Daly Cup, a high school lacrosse all-star game on Long Island between Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Mike, the captain of the Suffolk team, called Team Valor, scored two goals and won a majority of the face-offs he took throughout the afternoon in a 14-8 victory over Nassau, called Team Virtue.
Joe scored one goal and added two assists for Suffolk as well.
Dan Daly, a native of Glen Cove, N.Y. where the game was held, is one of only 19 U.S. servicemen in history to win the Medal of Honor twice. Daly was in the Marines and died in 1937. He fought in World War I and in battles prior to that.
