The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation is celebrating its 10th year of teaching stranger safety lessons to children.

The Foundation originally launched in Sachem Schools 10 years ago and will be back for a day of stranger safety lessons on Wednesday at Tamarac Elementary School.

Utilizing Health and Safety Standards established by New York State, the Stranger Safety Awareness Program is designed to reflect the principles of Awareness, Safety and Trust. The core messages are presented in simple DVD format with individual lesson plans written around each show. They are designed to deliver vital stranger safety concepts to children in a non-threatening, yet thought provoking manner.

Matthew J. Barbis, Founder & Chairman of The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation: It’s an honor to be presenting our lesson in Tamarac Elementary School 10 years after our program first launched. The program gained its roots here, starting as a simple puppet show, which has now evolved, with the help of the Tamarac staff, into an interactive educational curriculum.

Michael Saidens, Principal Tamarac Elementary: We are excited to have Matt Barbis and the Rose Brucia Foundation back to Tamarac to review Stranger Awareness with our kids.  In today’s world we must be vigilant to ensure that our kids safe and prepare them for possible dangerous situations.  The Rose Brucia Foundation is able to provide a strong clear message for our students without scaring them or making them feel uncomfortable.   We are so lucky to have Matt and Pat back at Tamarac!

About the Stranger Safety Education Program: The Stranger Safety Awareness Program, was inspired, created and developed by a team of award-winning educators. Utilizing a multi-media platform, the program is dynamic, informative and fun for the students. Focusing on elementary aged children, the program engages students and offers them the tools they need to assist them in their own safety, as it relates to strangers.

About The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation: The Rose Brucia Educational Foundation was founded by Matthew J. Barbis when his 11 year-old cousin, Carlie Brucia was abducted and murdered in Sarasota, Florida in 2004.  The Foundation’s goal is to reduce the number of child abductions in America by educating and empowering young minds with the knowledge necessary to avoid abduction.
