After ending Wednesday’s opening playoff game early due to darkness, Sachem North dropped its opening playoff contest to West Islip, 12-8, Thursday afternoon.
The top-seeded Flaming Arrows and No. 8 Lions were tied at 7 after seven innings of play before darkness struck. When the game was resumed the following day, West Islip’s (17-4) Sam Ilario hit a three-run double that gave the Lions an 11-7 lead in the top of the tenth inning.
Sachem (17-4) is not out of it yet. The Suffolk County Class AA playoffs are double elimination. The Flaming Arrows drop down to the lower bracket and will have to fight through the post-season with one loss in-hand.
Sachem will now host No. 7 Longwood on Friday, May 16 at 4:o0 p.m.
