The Sachem Central School District is pleased to announce participation in The Umbrella Project once again. This year students will hand paint umbrellas to be used for the benefit of continuing and expanding the Room to Grow program at the Queens Museum of Art. Room to Grow is a community engagement program designed to help children affected by autism through the arts.

Using the power of art and unity Sachem high school students visited the children participating in the Room to Grow program and created art with them. Sachem students are now working collaboratively to create one of a kind umbrellas representing the children they had the pleasure of meeting. Upon completion, the umbrellas will be donated to the Room to Grow program where proceeds from sale or auction can further benefit and expand Room to Grow.

The Umbrella Project is a non-profit organization founded by the late Hilda Brown to give children around the world “protection from the storms of life.” Using umbrellas, the universal symbol of protection, children are empowered through global exhibitions, positive self-esteem and making a difference through their art. The universal language of art and a creative spirit allows students to design one-of-a-kind creations that will help children in need.

Each year The Umbrella Project partners with other not-for-profit organizations around the world to support international communication and to teach children that by joining together we can promote global unity. This year a partnership with the Sachem Central School District and the Umbrella Project will benefit Room to Grow at the Queens Museum of Art.
