Sachem alum Evan Bloom was always strong physically and mentally during his time in Lake Ronkonkoma. He took his abilities north to Dartmouth where he has been an integral part of the men’s lacrosse program, a member of the varsity football team and is about to be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps thanks to his time in Marines’ Officer Candidate School.
The Valley News, a publication based in Hanover, N.H., recently wrote a feature about Bloom and his personal achievements while attending Dartmouth and what’s ahead in his career as he aims to attend flight school and one day be a fighter pilot.
The story is a candid assessment of Bloom’s decisions and emotions about playing collegiate sports, while aiming for a career in the military.
“I was given my chance to play my way into a starting spot, and other guys were better,” Bloom said in the story. “It just makes me wish I was better at lacrosse. That’s defined my experience at Dartmouth, but it’s still worthwhile. If I could go back four years and have the opportunity to play more someplace else, I’d still chose to be right here.”
